fashion and heavy metal

So as shown in previous posts, I was one of the designers for MICA's fashion show- Transcend. Here are some photos of the sketches (more like process) from my line!

some of my sketches are really rough, and some of the actual garments didn't come out how I originally had planned. I'm a very intuitive/improvisational worker, so if something happens while I'm making the garment and I like it, I get re-inspired and sometimes change the whole design haha. It's how I like to do it. Some of the dresses in my line were put together simply by being inspired by different parts of things I made.

also, as you can see [above], my mind has too many ideas and thoughts and at times I find myself piling one idea on top of the other..which results in me making a new sketch completely...but hey, it's all about the process. seriously though, there was a point where I just couldn't make anything tangible because there were TOO many ideas and I couldn't settle for anything less than the perfect piece. It all came together in the end, and I wouldn't want my line any other way.

on a side note: my friend got me the new Godsmack album anddddd I love it. It has some of their old songs along with covers of other songs. can I go see them again in concert? thanks:) haha

this post makes me happy because it involved two of my loves: fashion and heavy metal. perfect way to start the night-- haha my nocturnal self is coming out again...let's hope this doesn't become a problem (we all know it's going to be a problem).

in other news...

I am in a small entry in Gutter Magazine !! This made me so excited- haha. They posted the picture of the  cecilia dress! A few of the other designers are also featured in this entry. All of the designers are so amazing- it's so nice to see our work online.

in other news- here are some photos from MICA's 2012 senior shows:

sorry the quality isn't the best, they're all taken from my phone.
it was the first time i went back to baltimore to see their shows (because they're always a week after school ends and we all move out). I went back and stayed at a friend's place, and oh my gosh these shows are AMAZING. these are only photos of some of the fiber/sculpture work because i'm a fibers major haha. there was amazing 2D work that I saw as well. It's so inspiring- to know that I'll be here next year showcasing my work too!!

summer favorites

so i'm beginning something called a 'life journal'- inspired by elle fowler. it's a mini gold (of course it's gold haha) binder that i got from the container store (right? odd place to buy a binder).
in here, i have four things:
1. a daily/monthly agenda
2. note paper (for lists because i am a definite list person)
 3. plastic sheets (for paperwork, photos, inspiration, fabric swatches, etc.)
4. a moleskine for writing, more list-making, and sketches)
& with additional cute paper clips.

i have a ton of things i want to do this summer. this is already keeping me organized in what i need to do and when! i really love this idea, and it's easy to keep up with when you customize it.

something else i've been OBSESSED with is neon. i have neon everything -an orange cross-body bag, a yellow shirt, even a neon yellow bikini. but one thing that i am absolutely in love with is this neon yellow nail polish from illamasqua. I can't not have glitter, so I paired it with silver glitter from opi.

i got so many compliments!
so these past three days i was back in baltimore to hang out with friends and see the senior thesis shows. they were so amazing- i'm so glad i went! i'll update with photos soon because it was one not to miss.

Transcend: Backbone

my models for Transcend- MICA's Annual Benefit fashion show. the one on the way left is my sister making her debut as a runway model! this show was inspired by the spine, x-rays and my relation to this foundation of the body.
Artist Statement: Inspired by the human body, Backbone focuses on experimental images created through both 2-D and 3-D surface and textile designs. Focusing on the core foundation- the spine, this line represents the connection and movement between body and mind. Each of the 31 pairs of nerves coming from the spine connect to specific parts of the body that control movement and perception. Together, the mind and body create a system that affects us in everything we do, such as how we see, breathe, think, move and act. These pieces revolve mainly around the human body's structure and its relationship to the artist. The spine has been abstracted and transformed through garments represented in Backbone.
